A physical focus system that adds intentional friction between distraction and action.

The problem
Digital distraction is easy because access is frictionless. Software blockers can help, but they remain inside the same device—and can often be dismissed inside seconds.
F.O.C.U.S. explores a different question: can a small physical mechanism create enough deliberate delay to help someone recover agency before an impulsive action?
The prototype
The current concept combines a 3D-printed enclosure, electronically controlled lock, small lift mechanism, RFID interaction, and planned Bluetooth control. It is being developed as a tangible behavior-design tool rather than a generic smart wallet.
Design principles
Friction, not punishment.
Intentional delay
The mechanism should create a pause long enough for a deliberate choice without becoming hostile to the user.
Physical clarity
The state of the system should be understandable through form, motion, and feedback—not hidden behind an app.
Repairable iteration
The design should evolve through observable tests, modular parts, and documented failure rather than cosmetic polish alone.
